Aadhaar App crosses three crore downloads, 40 lakh people updated mobile numbers sitting at home

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has said that the new Aadhaar app is becoming increasingly popular across the country. The Ministry said today that the new Aadhaar app has been downloaded more than 3.1 crore times in less than five months after its launch.

According to the ministry, this achievement reflects the increasing utility of the app among the people and the increasing trust on it. He said that the app, developed with the aim of simplifying the lives of people, is providing many important services like mobile number update, address update and identity verification directly on smartphones.

So far, about 40 lakh people have updated their mobile number through the new Aadhaar app, while about 8.5 lakh people have updated their address using the app. The new Aadhaar app facilitates Aadhaar holders to show, share and verify their identity in a secure and confidential manner.

The app includes features like biometric lock and unlock, face authentication, authentication history viewing, and sharing QR-code based digital compressors at one click. Apart from this, users can download e-Aadhaar and also book an online appointment to visit Aadhaar Seva Kendras.

According to the Ministry, the Aadhaar app is being used for many real-life activities like hotel check-in, hospitalization, visitor management, entry to programmes, identification verification of gig workers and service providers. Available on both Android and iOS platforms, this app is considered an important step towards making digital services more accessible and convenient.
